Financial Notes
A.GENERAL RBACTION, IT is sonic time since the Stock Markets experienced so general a fall in securities as that which has occurred during the past week. The cause of the trouble, namely, the rise in the Bank Bate, ,I have discussed very fully in the preceding article, and have explained why at the moment it is difficult to say whether the downward movement has yet , come to 'an end or not. MoreoVer, it mdst also be admitted that the weakness of British Funds is probably increased by the fact that dearer money rates must have some effect upon Mr. Churchill's Budget figures owing to the increased national debt charges involved. Nevertheless, I am disposed to think that trustee stocks on the whole are so well held that any pronounced reaction is likely to be of a temporary character.
