The Admiralty return for last week of losses by mine
or submarine is encouraging. It is the best, save one, that we have had since the new 'U '-boat campaign began last February. We lost only four large ships, one smaller ship, and a fishing-boat, whereas in the previous week we had lost seventeen large and two small vessels and four fishing-boats. Doubtless the very stormy weather helped to foil the enemy's efforts, but the volume of shipping entering or clearing from our ports was as large as usual.
