JULIETTE'S WEEKLY FROLIC

A tiresome puzzle turns round events at Cheltenham. By this weekend I could be congratulating myself upon a stylish re- covery, courtesy of Into View, or be nursing further heavy losses on top of Saturday's abortive effort at Sandown. While in the dark over finances it would be wise to act cauti- ously and fortunately there is little to be tempted by in Saturday's fields—tame offer, ings after the winter build-up to the 'Festi- val'. Old Flyingbolt and four-timer, Onistoes could ensure an interesting race for Ling- field's 'Double Star' Handicap 'Chase, but as both may run the previous day and the latter has, anyway, a lot to carry, I prefer Rough Silk at 10 stone 13 lb, whose steady improve- ment in his last three runs culminated in success over this course and distance last time. The £1,500 Matfen Handicap 'Chase at Newcastle has attracted a number of good- to-middling horses, of these I like Carib Court who bids for a fourth successive vic- tory, but added weight and an extra half mile could prove his undoing, so with Slave's Dream as chief danger, I selected Cumber- land-based Proud Stone. On two recent trips south he was allotted hefty weights in goodish company and countered with awk- ward jumping, but earlier won three novice chases nearer home and carries a mere 10 stone 5 lb here.
