On Wednesday Mr. Boner Law announced that the Government will
insist on passing the Corn Production Bill into law before the adjournment. The principle of the Bill has been accepted by a large majority in the House . of Cbmmons. In deference to criticism, Mr. Prothero has transferred the bonus- from production to acreage, so as to encourage the planting of fresh land with wheat and oats rather than to stimulate intensive production on a smaller area Whatever may be thought of the new bonus scheme, it woo probably wise to make this very eon_ siderable concession for the sake of conciliating opponents to the Bill. But now that there is agreement as to the principle and the details of the bonus, there is no further reason for delaying the measure.
