NEWS OF THE WEEK.
THE relations between Britain and France have been thrown into a stormy condition when we write on Thursday. But though, no doubt, these are anxious moments, we are sure that the trouble will pass because the Entente is necessary and because Frenchmen and Englishmen alike feel that and know it. As we have explained elsewhere, we are at one with Mr. Lloyd George in his condemnation of the folly of the Poles, who do not seem to know how to keep the friendship of their friends. If we have now to say something in condemnation of the open message to France which Mr. Lloyd George issued on Wednesday afternoon) it is not because we disagree with its substance, but because we think that both its manner and the occasion chosen for launching it were unfortunate.
