Dr. Felix Oswald recently made an expedition on behalf of

the British Museum to investigate some geological formations near Karungu, on the east coast of Lake Victoria Nyanza.

The scientific results of his journey have already been pub- lished, but he gives a more general account of his travels in Alone in the Steeping-Siehness Country (Kogan Pant, Trench, and Co., to. 6d. net). His observations will appeal not only to geologists, but to zoologists and botanists, while he gives some excellent descriptions of the characteristics of the negro tribes which inhabit the district.
