This kind of thing can be prevented only by a
more wholesome public opinion. It is disappointing that newspapers which are in competition with one another have not generally been able to come to some kind of agreement. Presumably they do not trust one another. In London the evening newspapers are few, and one would have thought that an agreement might have been possible. The only agreement we have heard of was in Liverpool where dining a recent disgusting trial the two evening newspapers undertook by arrangement not to publish more than half a column each day about the trial.
