The Mystery of the Green Heart. By Max Pemberton. (Methuen
and Co. 6s.)—This is a detective story pure and simple, though in order to give it zest the author contrives to introduce a flavour of international politics. The central figure in the novel is of such high birth that he is always addressed as "Highness." The mystery which the book unravels is that of the murder of a beautiful lady, and the reader will follow the various threads of the plot with considerable entertainment. Like all detective stories, the pursuit of the various clues is more interesting than the discovery of the truth, but the trial scene at the end is well written and exciting.
