Animal Painters of England. Compiled by Sir Walter Gilbey, Bart.
2 vols. (Vinton and Co. £2 2s.)—These volumes, which are illustrated "chiefly from wood engravings by F. Babbage," are a series of short Lives of animal painters from the year 1650. They are not particularly interesting from an artistic point of view, but no doubt many people will find no little pleasure in following the development of horses and hunting costumes for the last two hundred and fifty years.
