The Making of Flowers. " Romance of Science Series." By

the Rev. George Henslow. (S.P.C.K.)—Professor Henslow devotes this volume to explaining and deducing facts from the origin and variety of floral shapes ; and surely nothing can be more marvel- lous than the history of floral variation by insect action, as shown so unmistakably by many peculiarly shaped flowers. Professor Henslow is careful in completing every step, ready with examples, and always lucid in exposition, so that any one with access to the flowers of the field can follow him with little difficulty. This is a book of which all young and inquiring botanists should possess themselves.
