There is an excellent book of travels published this week
by the Bodley Head, Two Vagabonds in the Balkans, by Jan and Cora Gordon. The authors have illustrated their book delightfully. In the Land of the Laughing Buddha, by Upton Close (Putnam's), is a still more lively and vagabondish book. The author travelled rough through China, sleeping with scorpions and cutting off their stings with scissors, dining with brigands, and generally getting into all sorts of mischief to find copy for American papers. .
