bit. "Neville - Chamberlain, in reply - to a "deputation from the
People's League of Health, on Tuesday presented a handsome programme in which his department is interested. The department, he said, would help in the preparation and distribution of leaflets on diet, though it could not properly distribute the leaflets itself. He intended to accept generally the recommendations of the Food Preservatives Committee. He himself had intro- duced a Bill in Parliament, when he was in office before, to provide for the earlier treatment of mental disorders. The fact that he had done so was an earnest that he did not-mean to leave the matter alone. These are only some of the points mentioned. Finally, we are delighted to know that Mr. Neville Chamberlain spoke of his recent words to Lord Newton about smoke abatement as being an actual pledge. This is excellent. It means that the Government will themselves introduce a Bill in 1926.
