The Paris papers of Thursday report the proceedings in the
Chambers on the preceding day. In the Deputies, while discussing an extraordinary credit of 443,000 francs for Oceania; the Minister of Marine stated that Government had had intelligence from Tahiti to the 22d December; when all was tranquil. Ad- miral Hamelin had arrived, and had taken steps to reestablish the " protecto- rate," [in place of the French sovereignty assumed by M. Bruat]. The Omni:* of Deputies granted that credit; and also the sum of .41;000 francs, awarded by Prussia as an indemnity to the British claimants aggrieved by the blockade of Portendic.
Advices from Lisbon, of the 28th April, :announce the issue of the following Royal decree. "1. The Government is authorized to restore the differential ton- nage-dues paid upon English vessels at the Customhouses of Portugal from the 18th January 18n, on which day Portuguese vessels ceased to pay' such differen- tial duties in England, to the day on.which the last treaty of commerce (July 3d, 1842) between Portugal and Great Britain was carried into execution. 2. This restitution is to be made by a deduction of one-half the duties which the parties interested may have to pay at the Customhouses, whether under the bead of tonnage, or of import or export duties on goods and merchandise." •
