The Emperor of Brazil, Don Pedro the Second, has been
proclaimed of age ; a year before the usual period, since lie is only seventeen. The sulject has been for some time under discussion both in the Seame and the Chamber of Deputies; and in the Chamber of De- pletes, on the 10th of July, a very angry debate was roised on a resolution, moved by the leader of the alieisterial l thy. which paved the way f0r declaring the majority of the Emperor : it is said even that blows were exchanged. Stormy debates occurred from day to day, until the 22d, when die Regent suspended the proceediegs of the Legis- lative Assembly until November. A deputation was immediate)) ap- pointed by both Chambers to wait on the Emperor, to ascertain his sentiments. Ile declared in favour of his own majority being pro- claimed. The Regent acquit:end ; the Assembly declared its sitting permanent until the event :heel(' be completed ; and on the 23d the majority of the Emperor was prochimed. The city of Rio was illumi- nated on the occasion. The Bret net of the Emperor was to frame a new Cabinet.
