The Pilgrim and Other Poems, is a school production, of
six- teen years and under; which has now first seen the light. Re- gardcd in this point of view, the poems may claim the highest praise such verses are ever likely to reach,—considerable mechani- cal skill in versification, a well-tuned ear, and ideas which have a
general relation but no peculiar fitness to the subject, and no novelty in themselves.
