your interesting article 'Catholics and Birth Control,' the writer states

that he has been told that the Catholic percentage of our prison popula- tion is much higher than the proportion of Catholics in the country as a whole. May I ask, what religious body has the lowest proportion?

Suppose that the ordinary irreligious Englishman wished to 'take up' a religion which, other things being equal, would be the most likely to ensure that his children would grow up into good citizens, which sect should he select? Some would say the Quakers, others the Plymouth Brethren, but our irreligious Englishman might think their standards of behaviour -over-high. I am told that the Mormons of Salt Lake City achieve low rates in both crime and disease. Yet I understand that the strict Mor- mon eschews all stimulants, such as liquor, tea, coffee, Coca-Cola and tobacco (if tobacco Is a stimulant), and our irreligious Englishman might hesitate. What do your readers think? Are there sufficient prison and reformatory statistics to guide us?
