As every day that passes is precious we wish that

the owners could have provided a brief and much more explicit announcement for the guidance of the miners.- Even if such a statement had been a trifle less agreeable than the present one it might have saved time by bringing the essential discussion nearer. We cling to the hope , that before Friday of this week, when the miners are to meet, the owners may see their way to say something more definite about wages which the miners could instantly accept as a clear basis for negotiation.
