THE South African Party received a severe blow as the result of Mr. A. G. Robertson's defeat at the by-election at Wakkerstroom by the Nationalist, Mr. Naude. Mr. Robertson, who had been Administrator of the Transvaal, was a very strong and popular candi- date. The Nationalists are jubilant and prophecy that they will obtain a majority over all parties. Certainly the result is a bitter pill for General Smuts and his supporters.
