The Colonising Activities of the English Puritans. By A. P.
Newton. (Humphrey Milford. 10s. 6d. net.)—It is curious that the first volume of the Yale Historical Miscellany should be written by an Englishman. Mr. Newton, who is Lecturer in Colonial History in the University of London, tells the story of the Providence Company, which undertook the colonization of the islands of Providence, Henrietta, and Association in the days of Charles I., and engaged in various attempts at trade and colonization on the mainland of Central America. The author has handled his sources with great skill, and we com- mend his instructive narrative to all who are interested in the early history of our Empire.
