Under Salisbury Spire. By Emma Marshall. (Seeley and Co.) —This

is one of the happiest of Mrs. Marshall's efforts. The story of domestic life, disturbed by the Commonwealth troubles, is told with much tenderness and grace. And the beautiful figure of George Herbert, poet and saint, is touched with great skill and sympathy. It was a bold venture to deal with a subject on which one expects so much, and in which it would be so fatal to be vulgar, or even commonplace ; but Mrs. Marshall has been equal to her task.
