As we write on Friday there is very little to

chronicle about the military situation. As far as is yet known, there is no change in the state of things at the Tugela. General Buller is facing the Boers, and doubtless watching closely for an opportunity for another attack ; but it is not likely that this will be given him till he can get up more reinforce- ments and is able to threaten the enemy in front while also making a strong attack on the Boer flank. That he will be able to wait seems now pretty clear, for the last news from Ladysmith is that the garrison have plenty of food and ammunition, and can hold out for a considerable period. If this is so, then General Buller need not hurry, and hurry is the only condition unfavourable to us. If we can afford to wait, the military situation is certain to turn in our favour.
