The January instalment of The Oxford English Dictionary, edited by

Dr. James A. Murray (Clarendon Press, 5s.), takes in the words "Heel—Hod." These number very nearly four thousand, more than a quarter in excess of any previous dictionary. One of the most interesting of these words is " High." Here is a not unseasonable quotation: "No wonder the Highflyers treat 'em [16c. Reformers] so, since in all their Notions concerning the Power of the Clergy, they are too High for the Reformation." The date is 170G, the earliest use of the word, it would appear, in this sense.
