entertaining account of an American social climber who, beginning as a leader of fashion in Eureka, Ohio, rises to be a parasite in the social circle of Newport itself. The author writes with real humour and, social climbing be ng international, the aspirations, humiliations and achievements of Mrs. Elijah Potter Nesbit would be very little altered in a novel which described the same endeavours in England.
