A Point of Conscience. By Mrs. Hungerford. (Chatto and Windus

)—The verdict pronounced upon Mrs. Hungerford's last new work will depend a good deal upon whether the reader is, or is not, of the number of those who usually enjoy her novels, for there is nothing in A Point of Conscience that seems likely to make any material alteration in previously conceived opinions as to the author's merits. The book appears to us to be harmless rubbish, somewhat below the level to which she is capable of attaining.
