ROMAN CATHOLICS AND THE WOOLSACK [To the Editor of TILE

SPECTATOR.]

SIR,—Unless I am mistaken, Viscount Sankey of Moreton, the predecessor of the present Lord Chancellor, is— and was when he sat on the Woolsack—a Roman Catholic. Surely then you are in error.—Yours faithfully,

[Lord Sankey is stated by the reference-books to be, among other things, a Governor of Pusey House and a Life Member of both the Governing Body and the Representative Body of the Church in Wales. On the main question it may be noted that the latest edition of Anson's Law and Custom. of the Constitution supporti the view that the Lord Chancellor cannot be a Roman Catholic.—ED. The Spectator.]
