Mr. Arnold-Forster made a good fight yesterday week at Dewsbury,
and succeeded in diminishing decidedly the Glad- stonian majority. Mr. Oldroyd, the Gladstonian, was returned by 6,071 against 3,979, or by a majority of 2,102. In 1886,
Eir J. Simon polled 5,117 votes, so that the Gladstonians brought up yesterday week 954 more votes than in 1886. But Mr. Arnold-Forster increased the Unionist vote by 1,220, so that the Unionists not only increased their numbers, but gained materially on their opponents. The election appears to indicate that both parties are steadfast in their policy, and that both are working hard, but that the Unionists gain ground a little more rapidly than their antagonists ;—in other words, that time fights in our favour so long as we fight gallantly.
