On Tuesday the London County Council adopted the Report of

the Special Committee. This means the demolition of Waterloo Bridge, the building of a new wide bridge with not more than five arches over the river, and the provision of a subway underneath the Strand. In the morning powerful deputations representing the Fine Arts Commission, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Town Planning Institute, the Architects' Club, the London Society and the Society for the Protec- tion of Ancient Buildings, had visited the Special Com- mittee. _ Nothing will be done towards demolition till the temporary bridge is finished in July. There is still time, therefore, to review the whole scheme if demolition can really be proved to be unnecessary.
