The Red Caps of Lyons. By Herbert Hayens. (W. and
R. Chambers. Ss. 6d.)—This " Story of the French Revolution" is a well-executed piece of work. Nowhere, not even in Paris itself, did the great movement assume a more varied form. This helps the writer of fiction ; he finds a relief, for instance, in describing the battle between the troops and the Lyonese Jacobins. The
book smells not a little of powder and blood ; but young people are not so much troubled by that as are their elders.
