1888. A Literary Friendship (John Murray, 5s. net) is a pleasant little collection of his letters to Lady Alwyne Compton. He describes Charlotte Bront6 as "broken-hearted and despairing" on her enforced parting from "M. Paul Emanuel," who was "a finished specimen of a Jesuit."
