WOOLWICH GIRLS' CLUB.

[To TH. EDITOR OP TUB " SPRCTATOR."1 141x,—Since the war began the necessity for places of recreation and occupation for girls in garrison towns has become extremely urgent. A year ago eighty girls employed in Woolwich tried to form a club, but owing to lack of funds were not able to do so. The circumstances of the moment, however, have enabled friends of these girls in Woolwich to get together .2230 for the purpose of forming a club. They have been fortunate in finding premises in a central position which will, with some alterations, meet requirements, and the fifty-seven years' lease of these has been purchased on very advantageous terms. The premises consist of a shop, several rooms, a flat for a. salaried club leader, a downstairs kitchen where refreshments can be prepared, and in the rear a fair-sized building which is being converted into a hall for gymnastic classes, concerts, and dancing. We now need money to form a fund as endowment to meet the annual expenses of .£250. The club will belong to no denomina- tion and will be non-political. It has no other aim than the welfare and happiness of Woolwich girls who are working to supply the Army and Navy with clothing, field telephones, and other necessaries of war. It is of consequence that we should open the club within the next few weeks, and we appeal urgently for funds to enable as to do this. Subscriptions should be Bent to the Manager, London and Provincial Bank, Wellington Street, Woolwich ; or to the Secretary, Woolwich Girls' Club, " Kidbrook,' Kidbrook Gardens, Blackheath, S.E.
