Other recommendations—on most of which the 10 per cent. reduction
really depends—are that the charges should fall with the index figure of the cost of living ; that the extra mileage rate should be reduced ; that there should be reorganization on commercial lines ; that an Administrative Board should be formed ; that the country should be divided into telephone areas ; that co-operative enterprise in rural areas -should be encouraged ; that there should be more public call boxes ; and that there should be a lower rental for residences than for business premises. We welcome in particular the excellent section of the Report which deals with telephonic communication in rural areas.
