The Times of Tuesday contained an extremely satisfactory announcement about
Tattershall Castle. Lord Curzon of Kedleston, who purohased the castle after the famous fifteenth-century carved stone fire-places had been removed. has now, with the aid of " a number of generous lovers of antiquity in the county of Lincoln and elsewhere," recovered them, and as soon as the work of restoring the castle and its surroundings has sufficiently progressed they will be replaced in. their original positions. When the work is completed next year Lord Curzon proposes to throw the castle open to the public. The public-spirited action of Lord Curzon and his associates will doubtless help to focus attention on the various Bills now before Parliament which aim at securing a more effective protection for our historical monuments.
