Mr. Arthur Towle, controller of the L.M.S. hotel services, has

been discussing in the Daily Mail the reasons why Great Britain as a whole has not a larger tourist traffic. It is a subject which _ has often been referred to in the Spectator. With few exceptions the hotel accommodation in the provinces falls far short of that of Europe and of the United States and Canada. If we are to attract more AmeriCan tourists, nine-tenths of Whom spend their , holidays on the Continent, we must modernize our hotels. * * * * --
