AN INSURANCE CENTENARY.

The Scottish Amicable Life Assurance Society is celebrating its centenary amidst conditions of great prosperity. At the recent annual.meeting the Chairman stated that the inasmuch was one having - special significance for the company, Inasmuch as it was the final year of the first complete quinquennial since the War and of the first century of the Society's existence. During the year the net new business exceeded by £00,000 that of the previous year and by about £55,000 the average for the quinquennial period. The result of the quinquennial investigation disclosed a surplus of no less than £1,028,000, out of which the directors have applied £739,000 in providing. bonus additions to policies entitled to full participation at the combined rate of 408. per cent. per annum. Not the least interesting part of the Chairman's address was the r sume which he gave of the company's remarkable pro- gress during its existence. It has been, moreover, a cumula- tive progress and during the past twenty years the assurances in force and the premium and interest revenues have all more than doubled.
