LEGAL AND GENERAL ASSURANCE
Many leading insurance companies did a slightly smaller volume of new business in 1938 than in 1937. The Legal and General Assurance Society is among these ; it shows a total of new life business of £16,565,154, against ,C18,549,226. But the decrease was wholly in the decreasing term and group assurances. Ordinary life assurance actually showed a further slight increase from L7,267,000 TO £7,294,100. More- over, the total funds have risen by a further £4,211,009 to £46,04%845. The total dividend for the year has been main- tained at 45 per cent., tax free. A very favourable feature of the accounts is the more profitable experience of the accident account which passes on to the profit and loss account £18,082, against D2,144.
